Thomas Schmidt
- Associate Professor at the
Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller
Institute at the University of
Southern Denmark - Head of Digital Innovation,
Regional IT, Region of
Southern Denmark
Thomas has been associated with CIMT for many years and wrote his PhD on 'Identification of high-risk patients – Analysis of patient data for the development of a new model for the identification of risk patients' with a basis in OUH's Emergency Department under the auspices of the project Patient@Home.
Today, Thomas is employed part-time as an associate professor at the Centre for Health Informatics & Technology at the Maersk Mc Kinney Moller Institute, and as Head of Digital Innovation at Regional IT, Region of Southern Denmark. Here Thomas runs the section for automation and artificial intelligence in the region.
Based on software engineering and clinical decision support, Thomas' research still concentrates on computer-based clinical decision support in interaction with the clinic, with a focus on the implementation and use of information technology - including especially artificial intelligence. Thomas participates in a large research project regarding the implementation of new EHR systems in the Region of Southern Denmark and the North Denmark Region.
Thomas has previously taught graduate students at the medical school in patient involvement and health technology with a focus on digital skills and on making the students better able to talk about needs and wishes in relation to requirements specifications or to build an IT system. The ambition is to make it easier for the students at the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Faculty of Engineering to collaborate - also when they have completed their education and are employed.
Thomas is also a member of CIMT’s Research Committee.
