EDiHTA

Digital health technologies (DHTs) are expected to improve both the quality and delivery of European countries' healthcare services while ensuring the sustainability of its healthcare systems. DHTs can also help decision makers by collecting relevant data and evidence.

PROJECT PERIOD

Start: 1 January 2024
End: 31 December 2027

However, implementation of DHTs may bring new methodological challenges to the standardisation of health technology assessment (HTA). As long as HTA methodologies are not standardised across the EU, the real value of DHTs can be hard to determine.

AIM

The EDiHTA project has been launched in order to create the first flexible, inclusive, validated and ready-to-use European HTA framework to reach Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6-7. This will allow the assessment of different digital health technologies, such as e.g. telemedicine, mApps and AI, at different TRL levels, nat ational, regional and local levels, and with perspectives from society, hospitals, etc.

The stakeholders will contribute to the design of the framework, as well as its development and validation. The project will pilot the framework in five major European hospitals as well as through an open piloting scheme with European developers of digital health technologies.

The principles of EDiHTA are to

  1. promote a holistic approach for consensus building at national and European levels for all stakeholders
  2. define a common terminology, and harmonise and enrich existing HTA frameworks as well as create an open repository with frameworks, guides, articles and HTA methodologies
  3. optimise assessment processes along the life cycle of DHTs
  4. follow a multi-stakeholder, multi-domain and modular approach
  5. co-create EDiHTA solutions
  6. provide a validated and ready-to-use digital HTA framework for digital health technologies
