Bettina has a master in nursing from Aarhus University and a PhD in Health Science from the University of Southern Denmark. Since 2022, she has been employed as a postdoc at the Department of Clinical Research at the University of Southern Denmark.

Bettina's research involves improving or optimising patient courses and using participatory design as a method. It is important to her that the needs of both the clinic, the health professionals and the patients are identified and included in any potential changes. User involvement and participation is therefore central to her research.

Bettina's PhD dissertation "Teledermatological solution to improve patient management in psoriasis: a participatory design study" aimed to design and develop a technological solution for psoriasis patients undergoing biological treatment in collaboration with patients and health professionals in order to increase the patients' quality of life and to reduce inequality in health as a result of geographical distances. Bettina was associated with CIMT during her PhD, and was then a part of CIMT's research committee.

Bettina has been instrumental in the development of a self-screening system for sexually transmitted diseases at the Department of Dermatology and Allergy Centre at Odense University Hospital, which has won several innovation awards.
