Exercise app for osteoarthritis

Exercise and training reduce pain and increase the quality of life for patients with osteoarthritis, but they have difficulty maintaining motivation.

New article details how an app can help them stay motivated to exercise.

CIMT senior researchers Dorthe Boe Danbjørg and Mette Juel Rothmann and CIMT's Head of Clinical Research Jane Clemensen contributed to the article.

The article describes three general themes:

  • competition as motivation
  • training together
  • barriers

The results revealed that the participants wanted to exercise but found it difficult to motivate themselves. The article identifies mental and physical barriers as well as the social and motivational aspects of home exercise and examines the possibilities for an exercise app.
