Access & Acceleration

The Danish and German health sectors are facing major challenges due to demographic changes, shifting treatment requirements and rising costs. These challenges call for new ideas and technologies developed through a continuous exchange of knowledge between companies, hospitals and research institutions.

PROJECT PERIOD

Start: April 2019
End: March 2022

This is the core of the project Access & Acceleration. With a multidisciplinary approach to competences and resources in the Danish-German border region, Access & Acceleration builds a cross-border platform to make it easier for companies to access and collaborate with hospitals and research institutions.

Access & Acceleration focused in particular on the development of digital health and medical technology, focusing on three stages of the innovation process:

  • Ideation: Genesis of new ideas within the healthcare sector and fostering innovation activities by companies in the German-Danish border region. In this process, the project involves patients and experts from the regional healthcare sector developing and identifying ideas for new healthcare solutions that promote enterprise innovation activities and address user needs. In this phase, the project also involves patients and experts from the regional health sector.
  • Development: The project partners create concepts for developing products and services and test them in two pilot projects.
  • Market access: The project partners identify potential market barriers that can arise during the introduction of new technical solutions and develop strategies that facilitate the market launch.

In parallel, a cross-border partner network has been built. The network brings together health innovators from companies, hospitals and research institutions that are interested in the Danish-German health market.

AIM

The project aimed to increase the visibility of competences, services and knowledge within life science, medical technology and healthcare in the Danish-German border region. The platform seeks to facilitate innovation and supports new partnerships and the initiation of joint projects across the border.

RESULTS

CIMT’s work package in the project has reached three main outputs:

The roadmap is a tool for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and other companies who wish to enter the Danish or German healthcare market with their innovative product(s) or service(s). It provides a platform within healthcare to support cross-border market access and innovative cross-border cooperations in the health industry, as the content on the Roadmap is centered on the three most common barriers to entering these markets, which are:

  1. Compliance with European and national regulations and legislations (MDR)
  2. Understanding the structure of a foreign healthcare system
  3. The knowledge about funding opportunities to support companies

EXTERNAL FUNDING

The project was funded through the Interreg Deutschland-Danmark programme.

Access & Acceleration wants to combine user needs (clinicians and patients) with companies’ requirements for the technologies and the latest research and accelerate the development of new sustainable solutions for the healthcare sector.
