Apple's global head of health visits OUH

Several years of experience development and good relationships have led to the fact that the global IT company Apple on 22 May is sending its head of the health area to Odense to learn more about OUH's work with apps and mobile solutions for patients and staff.

For many years, OUH has had a strong focus on digitisation and the implementation of innovative solutions such as telemedicine and videoconferencing for the benefit of patients and staff. In recent years, the implementation of apps to communicate with patients and to create flexible workflows at the hospital has gone particularly well.

On several occasions, directors and innovation consultants from OUH have held meetings with leading people from Apple's health team, who have expressed great admiration for the way OUH works with user-driven development and lightning-fast implementation of mobile solutions that the clinical departments demand.

These meetings have now led to Apple's head of the health area, Brian Gardner, visiting Odense on Monday 22 May to see with his own eyes how OUH utilises today's digital opportunities to put the patient first and create a flexible organisation.

Brian Gardner has previously worked with mobile technology for healthcare in the renowned American healthcare organisation Kaiser Permanente's, where he was head of their Mobility Center of Excellence, and his visit to OUH is happening because Apple is considering including OUH in their international portfolio of reference customers, which are pioneers in the use of apps and mobile technology in the health field.

During the visit, he gets the opportunity to talk to employees who use apps in their daily work to communicate with patients and to improve internal workflows and free up time for patient-related tasks. In addition, he will help launch a project where clinical departments and municipalities will have the opportunity to test home monitoring of different patient groups via apps and wireless equipment under the auspices of CoLab Odense, which is a collaborative forum for testing new technology for OUH and Odense Municipality .

Some of the OUH apps that Apple is particularly impressed with are the My Hospital app, which is used to support patients during their patient journey and ensure good communication with the hospital, and the Bone Book, which gives clinical staff quick and easy access for guides and instructions.
