Assessment of the value of AI technologies

It is estimated that Artificial Intelligence (AI) has great potential in the healthcare system, but it can be difficult to assess which AI technologies to invest in.

PROJECT PERIOD

Start: 2023
End: 2025

Therefore, Odense University Hospital has been the driving force in developing a holistic evaluation model to assess the value of AI technologies in healthcare. Model for ASsessment for the value of Artificial Intelligence (MAS-AI) is a model that aims to assess AI in nine different evaluation areas, which is why the model can be used to support the decision-making process in relation to the use of AI in healthcare.

AIM

MAS-AI is now fully developed and the next step is therefore to test MAS-AI in two ongoing AI projects; MAGIC 2.0 and CRISIS, both of which use AI in diagnostic imaging. This should contribute to a more versatile assessment of AI technologies and, based on this, determine whether the technology creates value for the healthcare system, so that a decision can be made on a scientific basis as to whether or not the hospital should invest in the technology.

In addition, the goal of the project is to achieve a Canadian adaptation of MAS-AI, as well as a test of MAS-AI on two Canadian AI technologies.

EXTERNAL FUNDING

The project is funded by the Region of Southern Denmark’s fund for health research.
