Co-producing research with patients and relatives

Within recent years, involvement of patients and users has been acknowledged as an important part of the process in medical research. One of the five subsidiary goals of the 2021-2025 research strategy at Odense University Hospital (OUH) is to include patients and relatives in all parts of the research process. Co-production focuses on cooperation and equality between researcher and patients.

PROJECT PERIOD

Start: 1 July 2021
End: 30 June 2024

AIM

This PhD project will work towards a better understanding of which factors play a part in successfully co-producing research at OUH. It will contribute with a collective set of tools and knowledge, which will make it easier to co-produce research at OUH.

The project will be co-produced with patients and relatives and consists of the following subsidiary goals:

  1. Identify values and principles to guide the co-production in practice. A code of conduct will be developed for co-produced research at OUH.
  2. Study how these values are formed in the relation between patient and researcher.
  3. Develop a model for co-produced research at OUH to enable, facilitate and evaluate the meaning of the co-production.

Eventually, the products will form a knowledge bank and tangible tools relevant for researchers and patients in the planning and execution of co-produced research at OUH.

Data will be collected via workshops, observations and literature studies at OUH, the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) and internationally.
