PhD defense on telemedicine for kidney transplantation

On 14 January, Charlotte Nielsen defended her PhD on how telemedicine can help patients who have had a kidney transplantation.

The goal of the study was to develop new ways of using telemedicine to involve the patients in the kidney transplant process.

The study was based on participatory design and contributed with nuanced knowledge and understanding of the patients' experiences during the transplant process. In collaboration with patients and health professionals, Charlotte Nielsen converted that knowledge into a process in the My Hospital app and a workflow for follow-up. Testing and assessment showed that the solution was usable and had the potential to improve care and treatment.

The assessment committee for the defense was:

  • Associate Professor Lisbeth Porskrog Kristiansen
Department of Health and Caring Science, Faculty of Health and Occupational Studies, University of Gävle
  • Professor Birthe Dinesen
Health Science and Technology, Aalborg University
  • Associate professor Dorthe Susanne Nielsen (chair)
Department of Clinical Research, University of Southern Denmark
