Successful seminar disseminating research results

Thursday 30 January 2025, a successful seminar was held in a collaboration between CIMT, the Centre for Research in Patient Communication (CFPK) and the Centre for Clinical Epidemiology (CKE). The seminar presented the research results from an extensive project that has investigated the use of video consultations at Odense University Hospital (OUH) in the period 2021-2024.

The project, which included three studies, has focused on different aspects of video consultations in the healthcare sector. In the first study, the patients' satisfaction with video consultations was examined, while the second study looked at the employees' and department managers' perception of the implementation of video consultations. Finally, a register study has provided insight into which patients make use of this type of consultation.

"It is important to do this kind of research across research centres and disciplines," said Kristian Kidholm, Head of Research at CIMT. "The results show that, in general, there is great satisfaction among the patients in participating in conversations with the hospital's departments via video, which is great. There is always room for improvement, and that is precisely why we can use this kind of research to see where we as a hospital should focus our efforts. This applies to the broad implementation in all the hospital's departments and, of course, that we ensure that the technical framework works as it should."

The research showed that satisfaction with video consultations was high across almost all patient groups – both the young and elderly, men and women, as well as across demographic backgrounds and diagnosis types. There was, however, a clear tendency for patients with a long transport time to the hospital and those who have a longer patient course with many contact points with the hospital to particularly appreciate the offer of video consultations.

The seminar gave the participants a valuable insight into how technological solutions such as video consultations can contribute to improving both the patient experience and workflows in hospitals.
