Iben Fasterholdt defends PhD

On 9 February 2018, CIMT researcher and HTA consultant Iben Fasterholdt was finally able to defend her PhD on early assessment of medical technology.

In the research project, Iben has investigated how early assessment of innovative technologies takes place - primarily in industry. That knowledge has formed the basis for a model (EARTH) for early realistic assessment of innovative technologies in hospitals. Early critical assessment using the model ensures that hospitals only proceed with developing technologies that are most likely to achieve the expected effects.

The early assessment will make better use of the funds spent on innovation for the benefit of both hospital, patients and society, because with the help of such a model for objective and systematic assessment we can concentrate our resources on the new initiatives that actually makes a positive difference in operations. The model will be able to be used by Danish hospitals to select the technologies that have a high probability of becoming economically profitable when they are implemented in daily operations.

A well-prepared Iben defended her thesis in front of many interested listeners in a full hall at Odense University Hospital.

Congratulations to Iben on her PhD.
