Discussion of the MAST model in the Journal of Technology Assessment in Health Care
In January 2016, the International Journal of Technology Assessment in Health Care published an article about the use of the MAST model in the EU project Renewing Health, written by Anne Granstrøm Ekeland and Astrid Grøttland from the Norwegian Centre for eHealth Research (formerly the Norwegian Centre for Integrated Care and Telemedicine (NST)), Tromsø.
The article shows that the participants in Renewing Health perceived MAST as a useful evaluation model, but also had suggestions for improvements using e.g. process studies and an increased focus on the technical usability of new telemedicine solutions. Read the article here.
Subsequently, CIMT's MAST experts, in collaboration with Anna Kotzeva from the Catalan Agency for Health Technology Assessment and Research, published a reply article which points out a number of misunderstandings in the first article. It is mentioned i.a. that the existing MAST domains already include many of the new wishes for effect measures, and that MAST is precisely characterised by including knowledge of the context in which a telemedicine solution is used. The reply article, written by Lise Kvistgaard Jensen, Anna Kotzeva and Kristian Kidholm, can be read here.
