Cost-effectiveness analysis of Hospital at Home as an intervention during a pandemic
This PhD project investigates how hospitalisation at home (also called Hospital at Home) can contribute to a more sustainable and efficient healthcare system – especially in situations with pressure on hospital capacity, such as during a pandemic.
PROJECT PERIOD
Start: July 2021
End: December 2025
When patients receive hospital treatment in their own homes, it not only affects healthcare resources, but also the productivity of patients, relatives and society.
AIM
The project therefore aims to investigate the cost-effectiveness of a new model for home hospitalisations, developed at Nordsjællands Hospital (called Influenzer), compared to traditional hospitalisation, and in addition to develop methods to better calculate socio-economic effects, including loss or gain in work and everyday life.
The project combines a literature review, a Danish clinical study of the home hospitalisation model Influenzer, and a methodological analysis of how productivity losses can be included in economic evaluations. The goal is to create new knowledge that can support decisions about future health technology solutions and pandemic preparedness.
