Thomas has been part of CIMT for several years, during which he finished his PhD Identifying patients at risk and patients in need with the Emergency Department at Odense University Hospital as part of the project Patient@Home.

His research continues to focus on computer-based clinical decision support, e.g. by developing the system Patient Deterioration Warning System with the Emergency Department at Odense University Hospital. The system uses data to help the department to watch the patients’ conditions and detect possible deterioration in time.

In addition, Thomas teaches postgraduate students about patient involvement and health technology – in particular with regards to digital competences and how to talk about needs and wishes in relation to specifications of requirements or in relation to building an IT system. The aim is to make it easier for the students at the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Southern Denmark to cooperate as students, but also when working together in the future.

Thomas is part of the Nordic eHealth Research Network, where he contributes with uncovering and analysis of national cyber security strategies in the Nordic countries.

Thomas is also a member of CIMT’s Research Committee.
