Project in Digital Vision leads to further development and implementation

After the completion of the VR Trainer project, the company behind it further developed the solution, so that today it is put into use at the Department of Gastroenterology at OUH, and they receive interested inquiries from other hospital departments.

As part of the Digital Vision project, the Department of Gastroenterology at Odense University Hospital tested virtual reality in the form of the VR Trainer solution for training catheter placement with the department's nurses.

The result of the project was that virtual reality was assessed as suitable for training clinical procedures, but the VR Trainer still required development before it could be put into use. In addition, workflows had to be established in relation to law, IT, hygiene etc.

Subsequently, the people behind VR Trainer have continued to work with the prototype based on the experiences from Digital Vision and have created 14 different procedures in the virtual training environment. This means that VR Trainer is today a fully developed solution for training clinical procedures in a virtual environment. Here, healthcare personnel can practice, for example, catheter placement, intramuscular injections and catheter placement without disturbing colleagues and without burdening the patients. And the Department of Gastroenterology at OUH has today bought the solution and put it into use.

Clinical nursing specialist and implementation manager at the department Trine Ladingkær says: "Digital Vision has made us much more digital in the department, and we are aware of digital solutions to our challenges in a completely different way than before. Our collaboration with VR Trainer has been very good, and it is great that the project has led to further development of the product, so that today it is an advantageous solution that we can use in our everyday life in a busy medical department".

VR Trainer is happy that the solution has been well received: "It is a long process to develop digital solutions for the healthcare system, because there are many requirements for functions, hygiene, data handling and so on. So we are really happy and proud that VR Trainer is today recognised as a forward-looking and reliable training partner for the healthcare staff", says Christian Nørrelund, co-founder of VR Trainer.

Digital Vision

The Digital Vision project ran at the Department of Gastroenterology at Odense University Hospital from 2019-2021. The project represented a new approach to digital innovation, where many technologies were tested in parallel in one hospital department in order to see the synergistic effects of a thorough conversion to digital workflows.
