The new innovation strategy 2019-2022 has been adopted and sets the direction for the hospital's innovation efforts for the next three years towards New OUH. The strategic approach to innovation is something that distinguishes OUH from most other hospitals.

Peder Jest, director at OUH, explains why: "Innovation has become a structured discipline in the footsteps of productivity and quality development in the healthcare system. The innovation strategy shows the way and obliges the management to think about both the patient of the future and beyond the next budget year. And it helps us to free up the staff for their actual patient-oriented tasks".

The innovation strategy focuses on four areas:

  1. From idea to operation implies that we follow innovation projects in a structured way all the way from the first ideas, composition of partners, applications for funding to various funds, project management, assessment, implementation and dissemination.
  2. More time for core tasks focuses on how well-implemented and targeted technological solutions can streamline workflows and tasks. The initiatives must ensure eye contact with the patients and effective screen contact on the staff's terms.
  3. The close and coherent healthcare system works for digital knowledge sharing and a short distance between hospital, own doctor and municipality, so that the greatest possible treatment can take place in safe surroundings in the citizens' own homes.
  4. From citizen - to patient - to citizen will reconcile illness with everyday life by giving the patient increased insight into their own health and actively participating in the treatment process - taking into account the wishes and abilities of the individual patient.

"The various innovation measures must contribute to a good framework for the staff and patients, so that they can focus on the central thing, namely treatment and health. With the strategy behind us, we know that we will stay the course and intervene where it is most needed", says Tessa Lind Gjødesen, Head of Innovation at OUH.
