Innovation professor at CIMT

With great joy and pride, we can announce that Kristian Kidholm is employed as an innovation professor at the Department of Clinical Research at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) and Odense University Hospital (OUH) as well as Head of Research at CIMT.

Kristian Kidholm is one of the Nordics' leading experts in the assessment of telemedicine and medical technology. He is behind the MAST model (Model for ASessment of Telemedicine), which is the most widespread framework for the assessment of telemedicine in Europe and recommended by the European Commission. Other parts of the world have also noticed the need to assess health technology, and therefore Kristian travels regularly to teach the model and assessment of health technology in hospitals. In 2020, for example, he will go to Beijing to teach assessment experts from all over the world in hospital-based assessment of medical technology.

WORKS FOR THOROUGH ASSESSMENT OF NEW TECHNOLOGY

As an innovation professor, Kristian's focus is on ensuring that we use the resources on the right innovation initiatives. This must be ensured by thorough assessment with a focus on their importance for the economy, hospital productivity and inequality in health.

"OUH is already a leader in the use of digital health technologies such as apps for patients, video calls and home monitoring of patients' health. My goal is that we must use interdisciplinary research to ensure that OUH's treatment offer for patients becomes even better with the help of new digital technologies, and that we choose the technologies that make a difference and provide value for patients", says the new professor.

Kristian regularly contributes to the media in various articles and news items, where he imparts a research angle on e.g. new technology, telemedicine and other options for treatment and health services over a distance. He has published 38 articles in peer reviewed journals and is cited over 1000 times.

Peder Jest, director at OUH and chairman of the Innovation Council, is excited about the appointment: "Hiring an innovation professor is the start of a new era for CIMT. It is unique for a Danish hospital to hire an innovation professor, and the appointment demonstrates the excellent and forward-looking collaboration between OUH and the University of Southern Denmark".

OUH’S PARTICULAR FOCUS ON INNOVATION

The appointment of Kristian Kidholm as professor of innovation at Odense University Hospital underlines the special focus that OUH has on strategic innovation.

Chief Medical Officer at OUH Kim Brixen says about the appointment: "We had a strong and very exciting, international field of applicants with a number of different professions represented. Kristian Kidholm's profile with a background in Health Technology Assessment, many years of experience from the hospital world and broad contact with many professional groups and disciplines were important factors in choosing him as our new professor".

At CIMT, we welcome the choice of the new professor and look forward to continued collaboration.
