Senior researcher Jane Clemensen

Jane’s speciality is Participatory Design; a research design that is developed in computer sciences, but is adapted and developed for health sciences by Jane. Participatory Design involves all stakeholders in all phases of the research process;patients, relatives, clinicians, the management and companies.

Jane is originally an educated nurse and has among many other thing been involved with introducing the graduate programme of clinical healthcare; MSc at SDU. Besides her research and supervison of a range of PhD students, Jane teaches different health scientific educations.

In the spring of 2017, she won the award for Researcher of the Year at the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Southern Denmark, and in November 2017, Jane was appointed Professor of Participatory Design, Telehealth and Ecology of Care at the Hans Christian Andersen Children’s Hospital at OUH.

Jane is not affraid to ask curious questions and call “usual” into question. She wants to bring topics, which are not usually mentioned in health care, into focus.

”I am motivated by the opportunity to change things into the better. I am eager to bring our research out into the world to benefit the patients and people in general. Research results must be integrated in daily practices to make a difference”.

In recent years, Jane’s research area Ecology of Care has gone through a remarkable local development at Odense University Hospital and in cooperation with six other researchers and clinicians, she has established a network and Center for Compassion in the Region of Southern Denmark. The purpose of the centre is to prevent stress, compassion fatigue and staff burnout.

Jane has prepared a handbook on telehealth, health technology and Participatory Design for teachers at universities, vocational colleges and business academies. Read the manual here (in Danish).
