Nurses at OUH focus on innovation

At Odense University Hospital's annual nursing symposium, innovation was the focus.

The overall theme for the day was "Use of technology - challenges in nursing", and the nurses heard a presentation from Jane Clemensen, Head of Clinical Research at CIMT and professor at the Hans Christian Andersen Hospital for Children and Adolescents at OUH, who talked about where the hospital of the future is headed with the subtitle "From shitstorm to lovestorm".

On the day, there was good energy and great interest in innovation and new, technological initiatives that can support the nurses' work. In the breaks between the sessions, the participants could visit various stands and hear about research and innovation in nursing – and of course also about CIMT and the opportunities to become part of the network.

At the nursing symposium, two awards are presented each year; respectively the Development Award, which goes to a solution or project that has been implemented and evaluated and has shown positive results, and the Initiative Award, which is given to a nurse who has done something very special for nursing at OUH for the benefit of patients and colleagues.

This year, the Development Award went to a project on video consultation in palliative care, which is a project CIMT and CoLab Odense have helped start up. CIMT researcher Dorthe Boe Danbjørg has helped run the project in collaboration with her colleagues Lene Munk, Karin Dieperink and Karen Funderskov from Palliative Team Fyn.

The second award of the day, the Initiative Award, went to Karen Faber, who received the award for her work with the nursing-run Liver Cirrhosis Clinic (LCK) in Department S1. The clinic focuses on both somatic, social and psychological efforts for patients with liver cirrhosis, and is the first clinic of its kind both nationally and internationally.

The nursing symposium is an annual event at OUH, organised by OUH's Senior Nursing Council and a working group of research nurses from various departments at the hospital.

Senior researcher at CIMT Mette Juel Rothmann is part of the organising group. Contact Mette if you would like to know more about the nursing symposium.
