OUH is holding an internal innovation day to spread ideas and solutions

On Tuesday 27 November, Odense University Hospital held an internal innovation day, where over 120 employees from the hospital's departments gathered to share ideas, solutions and experiences with large and small innovation projects.

The Innovation Day at OUH is an annual event for the hospital's employees, which focuses on new thinking and innovation in everyday life in the clinical departments.

A regular element of the Innovation Day is the presentation of the results from the projects that received money from OUH's internal innovation pool the previous year, in order to make visible the value the pool's funds have provided in clinical everyday life.

On Innovation Day, an innovation award is also awarded, for which the departments themselves nominate finalists in the months leading up to Innovation Day. A jury consisting of hospital directors, innovation experts, researchers and patient representatives assesses the nominations and appoints five finalists, who present the solutions on the innovation day in the hope of winning the participants' vote and the so-called "RAP Award".

This year the award went to the analysis laboratories in the Department of Clinical Microbiology, Odense and the Department of Clinical Biochemistry, Svendborg for the project: "Rapid detection of microorganisms". The two departments have introduced new molecular biology technology for rapid diagnostics for a large number of disease-causing microorganisms, which means that you can now give patients targeted treatment for the specific infection more quickly and avoid unnecessary isolation or the use of broad-spectrum antibiotics.

The winners of the RAP Award 2018 with OUH's executive directors Michael Dall and Torben Hedegaard Jensen and Head of Innovation Tessa Lind Gjødesen.

Innovation Day 2019 is expected to be held in October.
