Patient-involved research focuses on the process surrounding kidney transplants

At the Department of Nephrology at Odense University Hospital, a new strategy has been initiated to strengthen research in clinical nursing and the patient experience in the department.

One of the latest research projects in the area has investigated the motivation of healthy kidney donors to donate and the process surrounding this. The results have just been published and have received a lot of attention in the Danish media. The medical results of the donations are indeed good, but the donors are calling for better communication and more security in the process. Researcher Hanne Agerskov is behind the project.

The 5-year strategy for clinical nursing research at the Department of Nephrology came into being in collaboration with clinical research manager at CIMT Jane Clemensen, who is also co-supervisor on a new PhD project which will start in 2016. The project will investigate kidney recipients and their families' experiences in the kidney transplant process as well as the development of a telemedicine intervention.
