CIMT researcher receives honorary award

Since 2000, the Danish Breast Cancer Organisation has annually awarded honorary awards to professionals who have done something good for breast cancer patients. This year, one of CIMT's researchers has received the honorary award.

Malene Grubbe Hildebrandt, professor and senior researcher at CIMT, together with doctor and PhD Marianne Vogsen, received the Danish Breast Cancer Organisation's Honorary Award 2022 for their research in PET/CT scanning for use in the diagnosis and treatment of recurrence of breast cancer.

Their research shows that PET/CT scanning can be used with advantage on risk groups, already when they receive a breast cancer diagnosis. In addition, their research indicates that breast cancer patients with spread of the disease live longer on average when they are examined regularly with a PET/CT scan rather than a CT scan. The longer lifespan is due to the fact that using PET/CT scanning makes it possible to detect very early if an ongoing treatment is no longer working.
